3. Author Series - Andrew Goldstein - The Bookie's Son at Ames Free Library
From Publisher's Weekly:
"Drawing from his own life, Goldstein's powerful debut follows the retrospective misadventures of 12-year-old Ricky Davis, the "thin, anemic" son of Pearl, an aging Bronx beauty who once dreamed of silver screen stardom, and Harry, a garment worker with a pernicious gambling habit."
The event, at Ames Free Library, is at 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to all.
4. Is EEE keeping you inside?
Despite efforts to spray, Department of Public Health officials warn that precautions still need to be taken.
The threat is certainly real. A Carver man died of the disease last year.
But, how far is too far? Should we stay inside at night? Cancel all night-time events? Or just make sure we have an adequate arsenal of bug spray?
