I truly believe that the Town didn't do their job. If Acting Planning Director, Danielson knew about this demolition she should have asked to see the DEP & EPA paperwork. Everyone in Easton knows that there was toxic metals, oil spills, air pollution dating back to 2003 & way before. In late 2004 Belcher rec'd a "Dirty Dozen" award from Toxics Action Center - an organization which helps neighborhood groups thru New England fight toxic pollution in their communities.- as one of New England's 12 top polluters. Also, the Historical Society should have been informed by the Town, due to the fact it was over 75 yrs. old, did Danielson check with them? A third observation was that the company that was taking down the buildings was using our precious water from OUR hydrants, who opened the hydrant? The company should have called in a "water tanker" to use for hosing down the demolition NOT Town water, which the residents will be paying for. The abutters were NOT notified, Danielson should have requested the letter & receipts that should have been mailed out. Shoddy work on the part of the Town. This is unacceptable, hopefully someone is going to fine this company (State & Town) & also be compensated for the water use. All the residents of Easton are on a mandatory water ban, yet this water was on for 3 days, maybe longer. The Town really dropped the ball & some heads should roll for the incompetence that they have shown.
