Bites Nearby: Buddy's Union Villa

A great casual place for food and fun.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Easton Patch will pick a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out.

Here's this week's choice:

Overview: If you are looking for a casual place to get good food and have a little fun, Buddy’s Union Villa is the right place. With a menu that offers plenty of choices at very reasonable prices, everyone will leave the Villa happy. Christine, a bartender at the Villa, gave me some insight into the restaurant, which has been under current ownership since June of 1975.

Décor: Old school video games and a juke box are the highlight of the bar for some patrons. It is a casual atmosphere that welcomes college students, families, and people of any age. There are plenty of televisions to watch the big game and keno is also available.

Drinks: Buddy’s offers full bar service with a variety of beer available.

Appetizers:  The appetizer list almost takes up a full page on the menu. Everything from Buffalo wings, nachos, and mini tacos to traditional New England fare like stuffed quahogs and steamers are available here.  I would describe the list of appetizers in three words: simple, delicious, and comforting. Christine filled me in that “The big seller here are the Buffalo wings”.

Entrees:  Salads, Burgers, and Pizza are all featured on the menu at the Villa, and all for great prices. The pizza topping choices are plentiful and original. How does a Chicken Caesar ($7.25) pizza sound? Maybe a Baked Bean ($6.25) pizza? The possibilities are endless and intriguing. “Our steak tips are amazing” said Christine. You get a pound of them for $10.95, so you can’t go wrong ordering those.

Sides:  Burgers and sandwiches come with the standard side of fries, while entrees like the Steak Tip plate or BBQ chicken breast come with your choice of fries, mashed potatoes, or rice.

Service:  “It is mostly regulars here” said Christine, “or Stonehill kids when classes are in session. But we mostly know everyone that comes in”. Even while she was talking about the Villa, her main focus was the customer service she was providing for her patrons at the bar.

Owners: The four owners of Buddy’s Union Villa are Michael Richard, Cathy Reynolds, Karen Callanan, and Linda Sykes.

Miscellaneous:  Like doing Team Trivia?  Then check out the Villa on Wednesday nights at 8 pm and bring your smartest friends along!
