Claire Cronin Wins State Rep Seat in 11th Plymouth District
Claire Cronin swept all precincts to defeat Republican Dan Murphy in the 11th Plymouth District.
Claire Cronin was elected Tuesday as the next State Representative in the 11th Plymouth District.
Cronin (D-Easton) defeated Dan Murphy (R-Easton) by an unofficial margin of 11,355 to 6,607: 63 percent to 37 percent
“This has been a very long campaign,” Cronin said. “We had a very tough primary and we’ve been going at it since February. On Day One, we started with an eye towards November. We have a great team – grassroots organization. We worked it the old fashioned way. We did door to door and it worked.”
The 11th Plymouth District represents Precincts 1-5 in Easton and all of Ward 1, Ward 3-D, Ward 7-C and 7-D in Brockton. Cronin won Easton, 4974-4155 and Brockton 6,381 - 2,447.
Precinct results in Easton were:
Precinct 1: Cronin 584, Murphy 484
Precinct 2: Cronin 1180, Murphy 901
Precinct 3: Cronin 992, Murphy 848
Precinct 4: Cronin 1160, Murphy 925
She also swept in all seven Brockton districts, according to numbers provided by Brockton Community Accesss.
“You never know,” she said. “All I can say is we worked hard and if there is a correlation between time and effort and results, we should have won.”
Murphy, who will continue to serve as an Easton Selectman for another two and a half years said he wouldn’t have done anything differently.
“She ran a really good campaign,” he said. “She had a lot of support. She raised a lot of money and she did a very good job, and she deserves to win. I’m happy for her.”
Murphy said he hopes he brought important issues to the table, like unfunded retiree benefits across the state.
“I really thought there were things that needed to be talked about and I hope they continue to be talked about and I think I was able to bring some issues to the forefront during the campaign and I hope that there’s some effect from that,” he said.
Cronin will take over for fellow Democrat Geraldine Creedon on Beacon Hill. Creedon has occupied the seat since 1996.
