Easton Obituary: Jeannette A. Simonson
Remembering Jeannette A. Simonson
Jeannette A. Simonson, 91, a resident of North Easton for 52 years, died, unexpectedly, Thursday, December 27, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, following a brief illness.
Born in Pawtucket, RI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Alfreda M. (Lambert) Aubin. She was a graduate of Burlington, VT High School, Class of 1939 and attended the Rhode Island School of Design.
She was the widow of William D. Simonson, who died in 2003. They met while both were living in Burlington, VT and working for Sears Roebuck, she as a salesgirl and he as an assistant department manager. Her husband, smitten by her bright smile and she, by his strong, handsome face, were introduced when two other employees picked her up by the elbows and carried her down a flight of stairs. William stood at the bottom of the stairs and was told, "Now, here she is, ask her out on a date!" He did, she accepted and they married three months later, eventually celebrating 62 years of marriage. In Burlington, they started their family and had their first three children. They later moved to Connecticut, then Rhode Island and in 1960, to North Easton.
While raising her family, she was an active member of the Junior Women's Club in Providence and President of the PTA in North Providence. In Easton, she was a Cub Scout den mother for Troop 76 and a CCD teacher at Immaculate Conception Parish. After raising her family, she went back to work at Sears Roebuck in Brockton, where she was the Customer Service Manager for 13 years, retiring in 1983. In her spare time, she was an avid gardener, a voracious reader of history, especially of the U. S. Revolutionary war time period and a daily reader of the Boston Globe, literally cover to cover. She was also renowned for her fabulous cooking, in particular her Sunday roast beef dinners and deserts. Most of all she will be remembered for her always beautiful and contagious smile. She will be forever missed.
She leaves behind five sons, William D. Simonson, Jr. of La Grange, TX, John "Jay" Simonson of Montrose, CO, Craig J. Simonson of Houston, TX, Richard "Rick" T. Simonson of Ipswich and Jeffrey J. Simonson of North Easton, with whom she made her home; 15 grandchildren, Carolyn R. Lea of Caldwell, Idaho; Lisa A.
