The Easton Public Schools calendar for the 2012-2013 school year was officially approved by the Easton School Committee last week.

According to the new calendar, teachers would return from summer vacation on Tuesday, Aug. 28. The First day for students would be Wed. Aug, 29. Labor Day Weekend would immediately follow the students' return to school with a break between Aug. 31 - Sept. 3.

The last day for students would be Monday June 17. With five snow days, the last day would be Monday, June 24.

"We thought that with the winter we had last year and the weather we had in August with the hurricane that it would be wise of us to start before Labor Day, so we decided to do that," Superintendent Michael Green said last week.

The calendar also acknowleges winter break beginning with an early release day on Fri. Dec. 21 and students returning to school on Wed. Jan. 2. February vacation is scheduled between Feb. 16-24, and April vacation is scheduled between April 13-21.

Students would also have a day off on Nov. 6 for election day. The change came after the last major November election at the high school caused traffic and parking problems for voters. The day would be a professional development day for teachers.

"We felt with the election of this magnitute, it would be important to not have school if possible and free up some of the congestion and parking," Green said during the school committee's first reading of the calendar in December.
