EDITOR'S NOTEBOOK: Spring is Around the Corner
Warrant Articles can be submitted for Annual Town Meeting
Do you feel it? Spring is in the air.
Well, maybe not quite yet - but we're getting there.
We can at least say that it is around the corner, and this winter -as mild as it has been- is beginning to wind down.
How do I know? Well, for one, Town Administrator David Colton has officially released a memo requesting warrant articles for this year's Annual Town Meeting, slated for May 21 at the Oliver Ames High School auditorium.
Warrant articles are to be submitted to Colton by March 19 and Town Counsel is available for help with drafting. The .pdf of the memo is attached.
Town elections are right around the corner as well, and time is winding down to pull nomination papers and submit nomination forms. The last day to obtain nomination papers is March 2 at 5 p.m. and March 6 is the last day submit papers to the Board of Registrars. March 20 is the last day to file nominations with the town clerk.
After we reported late last week that not one person had pulled papers to run for the four available Finance Committee spots, Keith Graveline, pulled re-election papers Tuesday. Should Graveline submit his papers, there are still three additional spots.
With spring comes the beginning of spring sports for Oliver Ames and Easton's youth sports programs, but not before winter sports wrap up.
The OA boys and girls basketball teams, and the hockey team will compete in the MIAA tournament. Bracket pairings will be announced later this week and we'll keep you updated.
I would be remiss not to mention Brian Edlund, who is recovering at Boston Medical Center after being involved in a car accident and car fire earlier this month. Edlund's family sent a letter to the editor to Patch this week thanking the three men who rescued Brian, the emergency responders, and the community support the family has received over the last few weeks. Click here to read it.
We wish nothinng but the best for Brian and his family.
