Periodically, Easton Patch will post updates from Maguire's Bar and Grill owner and Oliver Ames cross country coach Neil Levine's trip to Mount Everest as he delivers supplies to an orphanage in Kathmandu, Nepal.

During the trek, the Easton resident, along with a group of fellow "trekkers" will reach elevations of 20,000 feet. The group plans carry in over three hundred pounds of supplies, medicines, clothes, and vitamins to the orphanage. For more information on the orphanage, click here. Levine recently made it to the base camp for Mount Everest, elevation 17,600 feet.

It has been a couple of days since we have been able to send an update.
 
We started our descent yesterday.  We left the frozen tundra of Goarek Shep .  We hiked through biting wind, freezing cold and driving snow for seven hours until we reached the village of Pheriche at a little over 14,000 feet.   The terrain was unforgiving and wreaked havoc on our bodies.  The oxygen began to return to our lungs with each step down.
 
This morning we left Pheriche for a demanding nine hour hike that brought us back to the village of Namche.
 
Our plan is to hike five hours to the village of Phadking tomorrow.   We will hike from Phadking to Lukla the next day. The following morning we will fly out from Lukla to Kathmandu.
