The Easton Fire Department participated in Ice Rescue Training on Jan. 5 at New Pond.

"These types of trainings become increasingly vital to the safety of the citizens of the Town, as well as the firefighters who, at any moment, may be involved in an ice rescue," Firefighter John Dzialo said.

"There is an increased potential for these types of situations this year, as we have been experiencing an extremely mild winter. Unlike past winters, just because it's late January/early February, doesn't mean it's safe to be on the ice.  We encourage everyone to use caution and to think twice before you go on the ice. "

The firefighter in the red rescue suit is new hire Shawn Goyette who recently finished his introductory training and will begin the Fire Academy soon.

Firefighter Darren Stone is in the yellow rescue suit and Lieutenant Tom Nicholson and firefighter Richard Salve are pictured as well.
