New Breakfast and Lunch Restaurant Set to Open on Easton's Main Street
The Farmer's Daughter, set to open in the fall, is moving into the former location of Main Street Cafe'.
With years of experience in culinary arts and restaurant management, along with a love for cooking that dates back to her childhood, Chandra Gouldrup had all the ingredients needed to become a proud restaurant owner.
All she was missing was a place for her business.
Thankfully for her, Main Street Cafe', located at 122 Main Street, officially closed it's doors last May, leaving a vacancy in Easton and an opportunity for Gouldrup.
The timing and location couldn't have been better for the Gouldrups. Chandra and her husband Brian recently built a house just up the road on Lincoln Street. She jumped at the opportunity and secured the venue from property owner Doug King.
"That’s appealing to me," she said. "I’ll have more of a connection to the town and we just got married so hopefully we’ll be starting a family soon. It will be good to have my own business and really feel connected to the community."
The Farmer's Daughter will open in mid-late fall as a breakfast and lunch restaurant that also serves takeout.
Gouldrup hopes to work with local farms to provide fresh food to restaurant-goers: something she grew accustomed to while growing up in New Hampshire.
"I’ve always been cooking since a young age and I learned cooking through family and my grandmother," she said. "My interest really came from growing up on garden fresh food and that’s really from my dad. He grew up on a farm in Northern Maine near the Canadian border.
"..Literally, we made a meal out of what we had growing and what the season was. It just kind of carried through with me my whole life."
The Farmer's Daughter menu would consist of farm fresh eggs and sweets like French toast, fresh fruit, and banana pancakes for breakfast; and an array of wraps, sandwiches, Panini’s and fresh salads for lunch.
When it comes to food, Gouldrup is no amateur.
She is an alum of the culinary program at Boston University and has worked at a fine dining restaurant in the South End of Boston called Sibling Rivalry. Currently, she is a manager at Petit Robert Bistro in Boston.
She even worked a stint under famed chef Todd English.
"I started as a dishwasher and worked my way up through the kitchen," she said. "Cooking is really what I enjoy doing. It’s where my heart is. I’ve been on the other side of things now for eight years managing."
She hopes to create a friendly atmosphere for her new customers on Easton's Main Street. The hardwood floors will be re-done and the interior of the building will be revitalized.
She will keep the countertop to the right of the restaurant but add Starbucks-like comfortable chairs near the windows. The booths on the left side of the restaurant will be replaced with banquette seating to give more flexibility, and two handicap-accessible bathrooms will be added at the back of the restaurant on the same floor as the dining room.
With the revitalization of Main Street over the coming months, she even hopes to add outdoor seating.
While she recognizes that construction to add an updated sewer system in the area and change the decor' of Easton's downtown will pose a challenge while she launches, she is happy to add something new to the area.
Store hours will be 6 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday and 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. If hungry Eastonites don't have time for a sit-down meal, Gouldrup said she will be offering a takeout option.
"Definitely, you can come in and you can sit down for breakfast or lunch," she said. "But I really want there to be an option where you can grab a coffee and something in the morning or you can come in here and grab your lunch."

This - the lack of a nice, well-run town center coffee shop - has been a gap in the smile of downtown business. It'll be great that it will be filled by an energized, experienced restaurant owner with a focus on fresh ingredients and friendly service. Can't wait to stroll in for a cup of coffee! Brian Hoffman

Congratulations! You might consider some type of "kid/mom-friendly" section for the wandering Children's Museum refugees I see wandering around Main Street after their play sessions are over.

I am also excited. Some of my only time spent with my wife and kids is during a meal. I often travel to other towns for breakfast as there are no other sit down establishments open in the morning.will be great to gather with my family and support a local family run business.

I can't tell you how excited I am to hear of this new restaurant in our town. Not only is Easton in need of a good breakfast/lunch place, but a farm-to-table type place will be a huge hit. You are definitely filling a void! Can't wait for the opening :)

I can't tell you how excited I am about your restaurant! I organize a group of over 50 moms in Easton and the surrounding towns called the EcoMom Alliance - as you can imagine, we love good, local, sustainable food. I hope to have a meeting in your restaurant as soon as you're open. I drive by every day on my way to work, and keep looking for your sign :)
