OA Boys' And Girls' Basketball Heading for State Tournament Play

Boys will play Tuesday at Somerset Berkley and the girls will play Wednesday at home against Fontbonne

The Oliver Ames boys' and girls' basketball teams received the news they've been waiting for Friday when the pairings for the South Sectional Tournament were announced.

The boys earned a 9 seed and the girls earned a 4 seed.

The No. 9 boys will begin their tournament run Tuesday night. The Tigers will travel to No. 8 Berkley-Somerset, who went 12-8 on the year and placed third in the Eastern Athletic Conference.

A win would mean a shot at the No. 1 seed: Falmouth.

The good news? Falmouth is coming off a loss to 3-10 Sharon, who the Tigers beat twice this year.

OA has had an up and down season. The Tigers finished the year with a 12-8 record; good enough for second in the Davenport Division of the Hockomock League.

Playing in a difficult league, they've faced top-notch opponents all season. OA has edged No. 4 Stoughton and narrowly lost to No. 3 King Philip and Div. 1 Mansfield.

Shorthanded and without their starting center, the Tigers are coming off a loss in the Harry Lehmann Tournament Finals against No. 13 Duxbury.

The girls were ranked 4th and received a first round bye. They'll play host to 13th ranked Fontbonne Academy (13-7) on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

The girls' team is riding high after a miraculous come-from-behind victory over then-undefeated Medfield (No. 2) Wednesday night to capture the Rebel Hoop Classic title in Walpole.

Oliver Ames (18-2) suffered two losses on the season, both close match-ups against Div. 1 Franklin on the road. A win Wednesday would mean a match-up between either No. 5 Somerset-Berkley or No. 12 O'Bryant.
