Proposed Foxboro Casino Concerns Sharon Resident

Matthew Baldassari sees a casino on Route 1 in Foxboro as drawing bad things to Sharon, where he has resided since the mid-1980s.

"You're going to see traffic and you're going to see crime go up" in Sharon, Baldassari said Monday.

Although Wynn Resorts' proposed casino site is in Foxboro, residents of neighboring communities are joining the fight against it, says Chris Lowery, No Foxboro Casino's volunteer coordinator. Foxboro residents are driving this volunteer effort.

"This is a regional issue. It will affect the whole area," Lowery says.

Danroy Henry Sr. Reacts to Released Materials in Son's Shooting

Danroy Henry Sr., the father of Easton native DJ Henry, who was shot and killed by Pleasantville, NY Police Officer Aaron Hess in New York in 2010, released a YouTube video Monday night expressing his views regarding materials recently made available to the public.

He said the materials, which include audio, dash cam videos, and testimony from witnesses, should be viewed in the context of an investigative process which Henry called "flawed."

"What we hope folks will do is keep in context the source of this information," he said in the video. "This was gathered, we think, with some bias, because it was gathered through an investigative process that we have already said on record, we think was flawed."

Stoughton High Boys’ Basketball Wins D2 South Sectional Title, Falls Short at Garden

With last Saturday’s 59-53 win over Hopkinton in the Division 2 South Sectional finals at UMass Boston, the Stoughton High boys’ basketball team advanced to play at the TD Garden this past Monday, March 12 in the Division 2 state semifinal game.

The Black Knights, the D2 South Sectional champion, ultimately fell to Brighton, the D2 North Sectional champion, 53-42, falling just short of a trip to the D2 state finals.

Barn, Oven Destroyed by Fires

Norton firefighters responded to a barn fire and oven fire on March 14, with the separate calls coming in just seven minutes apart.

The barn on Barrows St. in Norton was engulfed in flames. The structure and all equipment inside was deemed a total loss, with damages estimated at $50,000.

One firefighter at the barn fire sustained injuries in a fall while carrying fire supplies back to the station and was sent to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. No animals were hurt in the barn fire, not even the chickens that lived inside the barn.

Pawtucket Man Arrested After Crashing into Stone Wall in Mansfield

Joseph Hicks, 39, of Pawtucket, RI was given a summons arrest for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol; failing to stop for police; misleading an investigator; reckless operation of a motor vehicle; resisting arrest; possession of an open container of alcohol; and three counts of leaving the scene of property damage last Saturday evening, March 10 after his car allegedly crashed into a stone wall in Mansfield.
