Mansfield Elementary School Evacuated After Substance Found in Letter

At approximately 10:57 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, Mansfield Public Safety Dispatch responded to a call reporting that a staff member at the Robinson Elementary School had opened a letter from the mail containing a white powdery substance.

Mansfield Fire Chief Neal Boldrighini said the employee was transported to Norwood Hospital as a precautionary measure.

The school was immediately evacuated, and students were transported to surrounding schools after the evacuation. Only the office employee was reported to have been exposed to the substance, and she immediately washed her hands afterwards.

Alleged Jewelry Thief Arrested After Fleeing Police and Hiding in Storm Drain

An Easton resident was arrested Thursday, May 10 after fleeing from Easton Police and hiding in a narrow storm drain pipe with six inches of water.

Christopher Azevedo, age 27 of 464 Foundry St. in Easton was arrested and charged with breaking and entering and larceny. He also had several outstanding warrants, Easton Police Chief Allen Krajcik said.

Azevdeo climbed into a storm drain with a 24 inch opening and hid in a narrow pipe in about 6 inches of water for over an hour, Krajcik said.

Stoughton Fire Dept. Responds to Gas Leak at Home Damaged in March Blaze

The Stoughton Fire Department responded to a report of a gas leak at 49 Winfisky Dr. in Stoughton Tuesday, May 8 after a chimney partially collapsed at the home, falling on a gas meter, Captain Don Jasmin of the SFD said.

This is the same house that was significantly damaged during a fire on the afternoon of March 24.

There were no injuries to civilians or first responders, but as a precaution Jasmin said about eight homes on the street were temporarily evacuated.
