Easton Town Collector/Treasurer Teresa Desliva told selectmen Monday night that a new paperless billing system will make life easier for the town's collection department and town residents.

"It’s a new system from the old one that we previously had and we’re very excited about it," Desilva said. "It’s going to be a very efficient and user friendly service to use."

The new system will allow residents to make and schedule payments online, constantly access account information, receive reminders and receipts via email and send confirmations. The collection department is sending forms to residents asking for email information for those who wish to participate.

The system will incorporate a 40-cent fee for bank card or debit payments. Credit card payments will be consistent with credit card standards, Desilva said. The processors, not the town, will benefit from the fee.

While a fee is associated, she said the contract was up for the town's old system, which would have begun to charge a fee as well. She said customers can print the bill and mail it in if they choose.

She said the new system will also save payment history for up to 18 months, allowing customers to research payments.

"It is kind of wasteful – all of that paper," Town Administrator David Colton said. "People who are physically writing check and putting stamp on and mailing that, this is a great system for them."
