Two Easton Men Airlifted to Hospital After Early Morning Crash
A crash on Prospect Street early Sunday morning sent Perry Sarakiniotis and Michael Merksza to the hospital.
Two Easton men were transported to Boston hospitals via helicopter after being involved in a car crash early Sunday morning.
Police Chief Allen Krajcik said the operator of the vehicle, Perry Sarakiniotis, 22, of 3 Avis Circle North Easton, and the passenger, Michael Berksza, 21, of 478 Bay Rd South Easton were injured and extracted from the vehicle with the jaws of life. Neither were wearing seatbelts.
Krajcik said both were conscious on the scene.
Krjacik said police first received a call from Sarakiniotis at approximately 2 a.m. reporting the accident. The 2005 Nissan Altima he was operating was traveling southbound on Prospect Street in the vicinity of the former Easton landfill and went off the roadway, airborne and then into several trees. The vehicle received extensive damage.
The accident is being investigated by Officer Sean Lynch, Krajcik said. He said Sarakiniotis will be cited for speeding, operating to endanger, failure to wear a seatbelt and failure to stay in marked lanes.
The helicopters landed behind the Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School. West Bridgewater Fire Department also assisted and the roadway had to be shut down for a period of time.
