The 11th Plymouth District State Rep candidates Claire Cronin (D-Easton) and Dan Murphy (R-Easton) debated on Brockton Community Access earlier this month.

Topics included jobs, the economy, retiree health insurance, and schools.

The debate was moderated by Brockton Community Access general manager Mark Linde and a panel consisted of Brockton Democratic City Committee Chair Steven Foote and Brockton Republican City Committee member David Heidke.

Murphy, an accountant and selectman, and Cronin, a mediator, are looking to replace Geraldine Creedon (D-Brockton) in the state legislature. The district is made up of Precincts 1-5 in Easton and all of Ward 1, Ward 3-D, Ward 7-C and 7-D in Brockton.

Cronin was unable to participate in an Easton debate because of the death of her mother, which caused her to cancel campaign obligations.

I am an informed, registered Democrat and public educator. Having now seen the performance of both Claire Cronin and Dan Murphy I can now clearly state which candidate I feel deserves support. Though Cronin stresses her experience as a lawyer and mediator, specifically her ability to bring people together, what Brockton and Easton need now in these tough times is a leader, someone who brings both the knowledge and big ideas that will induce change and set a new precedent for getting the job amongst decision makers that we depend on to protect our most pressing needs.
Murphy makes a great point that despite the interest in the national election this season it is our investment in local government that is going to have the most direct and immediate impact. For that I want someone that is going to be prepared on day 1. It would appear that person is Dan Murphy. Sorry, but I've going to be crossing party lines for this one.
