What's at the Top of Your Song List? Patch Editors Tell What They Are Listening to

In an end of the year series, Patch editors are looking back at their favorites of 2011.

What was the best song in 2011?

Usually, our editors are the ones asking the questions for the New Year's weekend, but we're turning the tables a bit. We've been asked for our top picks in movies, books, songs, person of the year, event of the year and best Boston sports moment.

In round four, we give our best song for 2011. After reading ours, please share yours with us in the comment section.

Kelly Mello, Norton Patch Editor-Adele's "Rolling in the Deep." Adele has such a gorgeous voice, and it's about time America realized it. Though the radio has tried to run "Rolling in the Deep" into the ground, you can't deny how fun it is to belt out this tune when you think no one is listening.

Ben Paulin, Dover-Sherborn Patch Editor-The song of the year would have to be anything by Justin Bieber. It's kind of insulting that a 17-year-old already has more money than I will likely ever have in my lifetime. At the same time he has become probably the most famous musician on the planet. So much so that a little girl threatened to kill Santa Claus if she did not get 'the real-life Justin Bieber' for Christmas.

Jeffrey Pickette, Stoughton Patch Editor- You could not turn on Kiss108, Mix 104.1 or even Providence's top 40 music station, 92 Pro-FM, without hearing Adele's Rolling in the Deep or LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem. Katy Perry and Rihanna also had a huge years, each with a number of hits.

Michael Hardman, Regional Editor, Attleboro Patch Editor-My man Kenny Chesney's "Reality" is topping my play chart as 2011 ends.

Jeremy Smith, Medfield Patch Editor-Adele “Rolling in the Deep.”  When I look back and reflect on 2011, I can’t help but hear this song in my head. It was on the radio, on TV, even the sound over to various montages … not to mention, all over YouTube. Adele reached new heights this past year with this song and I have to admit, it’s a pretty good tune.

Kelly Glista, Norwood Patch Editor-I couldn't even begin to pick. I think there was some YouTube sensation where a girl sings the calendar... (Editor's note: Rebeca Black's Friday is the song. We googled it. If you do and play it, you are hereby warned the song says with you.)

Jeff Sullivan, Mansfield Patch Editor-Group Love - Colors. This song is literally two chords. Minimalism taken to its limit, and made into a listenable, danceable and completely awesome song. Hooks are great too.

Pat Maguire, Easton Patch Editor-If you're a country fan like I am, you'll have heard Ronnie Dunn's "Cost of Livin.'" In the year 2011, the song is fitting. A hard-working Iraq War Veteran is in a job interview describing his trials and tribulations while looking for work. The song touches a nerve that can't be found by reading unemployment numbers or news reports about the bad economy. While simple, it is eloquent and smart.
