Almost 51 years ago this August of 1961 when John F. Kennedy was our President I was born. My parents Anne Marcia and David Linde who reside in Easton named me in the Jewish tradition in memory of relatives who had passed away. I am named after Marcus, Mary and Elias some of my ancestors. My full name is Mark Eliot Linde. My parents considered Matthew Eric until my older brother said that he didn't like the name Matthew because his brother was "not going to be a doormat for anyone." My mother thought that her son was going to "make a mark on this world" and that I would be a special person that would grow up to help others.
I am very lucky to have both of my parents alive and well in sound mind and as healthy as they can be in their senior years. I have been fortunate to have parents that care deeply about family. We went every week to see my grandparents either in Allston, MA or Newmarket, NH where they lived. When my grandparents moved to Miami I followed them for my last two years of college at University of Miami to be close to them in their senior years. I was lucky that they were at my graduation which is one of my favorite memories.
Education in my family is of utmost importance. I come from a family of teachers. Both of my grandmothers were elementary school teachers as well as my mother. My dad taught at Stonehill College and Massasoit Community College part time for over 25 years. I now teach part-time at Massasoit Community College and have proudly done so for 19 years. I am extremely proud to be an elected member of the Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical School Committee, which serves 9 communities including Brockton and Easton. I have been a Library Trustee in Brockton for 16 years. Our library is a vital community center and is known as "The People's University." I am proud to have attended Stonehill College for almost two years. I transferred to University of Miami to pursue a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science.
I came home after applying for a job spring break of my senior year. I was hired to work on the daily local news show in Brockton on Continental Cablevision and worked at 4 Main Street across the street from Brockton Community Access at 1 North Main Street where I am now the General Manager for almost two decades. Both jobs inform, educate and sometimes entertain residents of the community. Our motto at BCA is create, share and inspire.
All of my professional experience in my jobs over the course of my life have revolved around community and education. All of my activities where I have been a part of many teams have been focused on and committed to community. It is my hope to share my acquired talents, education, work ethic and community service passion as your State Representative for Easton and Brockton. I care deeply about community. I love the rich history of both Easton and Brockton and will work to preserve and showcase both communities. My circle in my daily routine is intricately tied to both communities. Many of the people I know and consider friends live in Easton and Brockton. Many people that lived in Brockton now live in Easton or surrounding communities.
Wherever I have gone in life or what I have accomplished I owe to my parents, my family, my friends and my communities. My wife Teri and I hope you become part of our extended family and friends as we learn about your hopes and dreams and what the state can do to assist you. My dream is to continue to serve in a new role as your State Representative in Eason and Brockton. I ask you for your consideration on Thursday September 6th 2012. Please vote for Mark Linde as your State Representative. Allow me to make a Mark on your world and be of service to you.
