OUTRUN HOMELESSNESS AT THE 2012 SCHOOL ON WHEELS OF MASSACHUSETTS RACE & FUN WALK,
APRIL 28TH

(BROCKTON, MA)Register now to run or walk in the Outrunning Homelessness Race & Fun Walk  sponsored by Crescent Credit Union to benefit
School on Wheels of Massachusetts (SOWMA).
The event will kick off on Saturday, April 28th, at 9:00 am at Borderland State Park, 259 Massapoag Ave., Easton. Registration begins at 8:00 am. The event is open to people of all ages and abilities, including competitive runners, children, families, and teens. Individuals
and teams are invited to participate.

The 5K Race and 2-mile Fun Walk will raise money to support SOWMA’s life-changing services for children and teens experiencing homelessness, including: one-on-one afterschool tutoring; new backpacks and school supplies; and educational advocacy and support. SOWMA currently serves children in 10 Eastern Massachusetts locations, including family shelters, afterschool programs, and community centers in Brockton, Middleboro, New Bedford, Norwell, Quincy, and Stoughton.

The 2012 Outrunning Homelessness Race & Fun Walk is generously supported by anchor sponsor Crescent Credit

Money raised from this event will support SOWMA’s customized academic services for children and teens experiencing homelessness.

ABOUT SCHOOL ON WHEELS OF MASSACHUSETTS

Founded by Easton resident Cheryl Opper, with afterschool tutoring programs in Brockton, Middleboro, New Bedford, Norwell, and Stoughton, School on Wheels of Massachusetts (SOWMA) is the only organization in the state providing one-on-one tutoring, new backpacks, books, school supplies, and educational advocacy and
support to children and teens experiencing homelessness at multiple sites. More than 1,200 students in grades pre-K through college have benefitted from SOWMA’s services and more than 1,000 community volunteers have been trained to serve as one-on-one tutors since the organization’s 2004 start. Borderland State Park features trails for walking and horseback riding and ponds for canoeing and fishing. The park was created in the early 1900s by Blanche Ames, artist and suffragist, and her husband Oakes.
