North Easton resident Peter D. Rappo, M.D. is honored by Plymouth District Medical Society as 2014 Community Clinician of the Year

Waltham – April 7 – North Easton resident Peter D. Rappo, M.D. has been honored by his peers of the Plymouth District Medical Society as 2014 Community Clinician of the Year, an award recognizing his professionalism and accomplishments as a physician. He received the award April 1 at the district society’s Annual Meeting at the Boston Tavern in Middleboro. 

The Community Clinician of the Year Award was established in 1998 by the Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a physician from each of the Society’s 20 district medical societies who stands out as a leading caregiver.  The Plymouth District has nearly 600 physician members who live and work throughout Plymouth County.

A board-certified pediatrician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Rappo is a physician with Pediatric Associates of Brockton, where he has practiced since 1977.  He has staff appointments at Brockton Hospital, South Shore Hospital, Good Samaritan Medical Center, Boston Floating Hospital for Infants and Children, and Boston Children’s Hospital.

Among many positions in health and medical organizations at the state and national level, Dr. Rappo has served as president of the Mass. Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Chairman of the Council on Pediatric Practice and Chairman of the Committee on Practice and Ambulatory Medicine of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and president of the Plymouth District Medical Society.  

He has been a member of the House of Delegates of the Massachusetts Medical Society since 2004 and has chaired the Pediatric Care Committee of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care since 1990.  For ten years during the 1980s and 1990s, he volunteered as a physician with Por Christo, a nonprofit foundation serving children in Ecuador.

A 1966 graduate of Brockton High School, Dr. Rappo graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont. He has held teaching positions at Tufts University School of Medicine and Boston University School of Medicine and is now a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.

A widely published author on a variety of topics in pediatric medicine, Dr. Rappo has been previously honored with the Distinguished Faculty Award from Tufts University, the Distinguished Scholar Medal from the Catholic University in Ecuador, Volunteer of the Year Award from the Por Christo Foundation, Boston Children’s Hospital Community Pediatrician Award, and the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Special Achievement Award. He has been named to Boston Magazine’s list of Best Doctors in Massachusetts seven times and to Best Doctors in America four times.

The Massachusetts Medical Society, with more than 24,000 physicians and student members, is dedicated to educating and advocating for the patients and physicians of Massachusetts.
