The first annual Hip-Hop 5K is being held at Oliver Ames in Easton, Saturday, Aug. 24, starting at 9 a.m. The cost is $20 ($25 day of) for adults, $15 for children under 13/ child walker, $10 virtual runner – this means you just pay and pretend you walked.
This event is organized by Easton resident and hip dysplasia fighter Emily Cioffi and all money raised goes to benefit the Boston Children’s Hospital Hip Program and the International Hip Dysplasia Institute and will be used for advancing research and awareness.
Hip dysplasia means that the bones of the hip joint are not aligned properly. It is a painful process where the ball slips in and out of the socket, which causes the hip to wear out much faster than normal.
A site has been put together for the run, http://hiphop5k.kintera.org and on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/HipHop5K, for joining the run/walk, volunteering and donating easy, or for direct contact at email@example.com.
Registration on race day starts Saturday at 7:30 a.m.
