State Representative Shaunna O'Connell, 3rd Bristol House District, presented a proclamation to Morton Hospital from Governor Deval Patrick proclaiming October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Representative O'Connell presented the proclamation to the President of Morton Hospital, Kim Bassett, RN, MSN, MBA, on Oct. 13, 2012 before a group of employees.

O'Connell said that like so many people, her family has been affected by cancer.  She told the crowd her mom, a two-time cancer survivor, was lucky to receive life-saving care at Morton Hospital.

O'Connell also thanked the employees for the high-quality care they provide to the community.

"Everyone from the food service employees to the doctors help patients to have successful outcomes and we are grateful for your commitment to this community."

October is designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and is meant to raise awareness and educate individuals about the disease.
