Easton YMCA Partners With Micheli Center for Sports Injury Prevention

The Micheli Center for Sports Injury Prevention, founded by Dr. Lyle Micheli in April, is partnering with YMCA Old Colony in Easton for prevention of sports injuries. 

Dr. Micheli is the director of the Division of Sports Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital and uses evidence-based strategies to reduce risk of injury in athletes while enhancing individual sports performance. Personal programs are developed to prevent athletes from obtaining injuries in their sport, to be able to play longer and safer.

Personal Injury Risk Profiles: After going through an extensive fitness evaluation, clients meet with a board-certified sports medicine physician and are provided with an individualized prescription outlining steps they can take to minimize their risk of sports injuries.

Concussion Prevention Programs: Athletes learn about their own personal risk of injury, receive instructions on how to reduce their risk of sustaining a sport-related concussion, baseline testing, computerized measurements of their brain function, standardized assessments of their balance, and guidance on how to play their sports safely.

The Running Program at The Micheli Center: This assists healthy runners of all ages and skill levels who seek a multidisciplinary analysis of running style, gait, distance, age, competition level, and more to determine an individualized injury risk profile.

Specialty Programs: These are developed for sports injury prevention plans for dancers, figure skaters, throwing athletes, and more are also available.

Coach and Community Clinics: These are informational sessions for those currently involved in coaching, athletic training, strength and conditioning, or parenting young athletes. During these clinics, The Micheli Center team reviews the most current research in the fields of sports medicine, injury prevention, and performance training.

Personal Training: These sessions are to ensure proper technique when fulfilling the prescriptions received at The Micheli Center will be led by certified professionals who specialize in training children and young adults. Both one-on-one sessions and small session with groups of two-10 customers are offered.
