Also on hand to congratulate Sharkansky LLP were
Massachusetts State Representatives Claire Cronin and Michael Brady, as well as
Brockton Mayor William Carpenter’s Chief of Staff Bob Buckley. Representative
Cronin offered an official State House citation of congratulations to the firm
on behalf of the State Representatives whose territory includes Brockton (her,
and Representatives Brady and Christine Canavan). Additionally, Bob Buckley,
Chief of Staff for Brockton Mayor William Carpenter, presented a plaque to the
firm in recognition of its fifty years of service to the region.

The event attracted many Chamber members and other
well-wishers. Sharkansy LLP Managing Partner Joe Shulman thanked the Metro
South Chamber and guests for helping celebrate the milestone, and reflected on
their company’s history and how the field of accounting has changed. “At one
time our industry was considered ‘numbers crunchers,’ but technology and client
needs have changed that.” He said that the role of a CPA firm far eclipses
merely providing numbers and tax return information, and that their role is to
serve as trusted advisors and partners for the clients they serve.

The firm was founded by Robert Sharkansky on the eve of the
1964 tax filing season. He served as founding partner, and was an integral part
of the firm and its growth until his retirement in 2000. There are currently
seven partners. David Orloff joined in 1973, followed by Joe Shulman (1983),
Howard Spiller (1983), Joyce Christensen (1984), Scott Estabrooks (1990), Jay
Pike (1998) and Mitzi Hollenbeck (2003). In addition, the firm employs
approximately 35 people.

Sharkansky LLP serves a number of industries, including
distribution companies, importers, manufacturers, architects, engineers, and
the medical profession. The firm recently launched an Outsourced Accounting
Division which is headed up by partner Jay Pike.

The firm traces its roots to Belmont Street, near the
Fairgrounds, in Brockton. From there, they relocated to Torrey Street in
Brockton, and in the 1980s the partners acquired condominium property at 1350
Belmont Street, near Stonehill College, and moved the offices to the firm’s
present-day location.

Sharkansky LLP became a member of the BDO Seidman Alliance
in 2012. The BDO Seidman Alliance is a nationwide association of independently
owned local and regional accounting, consulting and service firms.
