This Week at the Marketplace at Simpson Spring

Back to Business

We hope everyone enjoyed the holiday break and celebrated all that is great about this country.  For us it was business as usual - as it is for many local farms and businesses. That is a testament to the hardworking, passionate folks behind those farms and businesses.  It is this integrity that we celebrate at the Marketplace. It is the secret ingredient in the baker's breads, the farmers's veggies and the crafters bounty.

Tasty Ideas

Try this Summer Cocktail Idea:

June Bug Punch
  • 4 Simpson Spring Ginger Ale
  • 4 Tablespoons Grenadine
  • 4 Tablespoons Orange Juice
  • 3 Scoops Orange Sherbet

Blend for a refreshing summer drink. Pour into ice-filled cocktail glasses. Great for the kids. OR Make it fun for the Adults with your favorite white or coconut rum.

A Day In the Life

My fiance does more before the rest of the world wakes up each day than the rest of the world does in their entire day!

Find out what's happening in Eastonwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Early to rise, the Bob Dylan words "when your rooster crows at the break of dawn" quickly come to mind. Hens to tend, beans to pick, lettuce to clean, bouquets to make. Just last week I looked out the window at 6:05 and he was in the front field in his pajamas and rubber rain boots picking golden beets for our farmers market. Brains racing, to do lists growing, a farmers work is never done.

A standard day is 5am to 9pm, and thats simply because it got too dark at 9, so you are forced to stop, come inside, eat a dinner that is a labor of your love and your freshly grown goods, hear the weather report for the next day so you can add to your to do list, lay your tired body to a good nights sleep, while your brain still races.

Although so many of us consider the "growing season" to be limited to spring into fall, a farmers work is a year round process. We are always seeding in our greenhouses, nursing our flowers, vegetables and more year round to provide fresh, non GMO, local goodies to our friends, families, and customers.

We do what we do, we love what we love, we love what we do. "Love grows Love"

A Typical Day

5:00-7:30am

Picking in the field at our farm house, tending to animals

7:30-9:30am

Picking in the field and setting up the stand for opening.  Rinsing lettuce, going through berries, squash, peppers, fruits & more ensuring each piece is perfect for the customers.

9:30-12:30pm

Morning rush helping customers get their goods, fulfilling any orders for pickup or delivery.

12:30-3:30pm

Farm stand lull while other folks are on the beach: which means field work, weeding, more picking for the evening customers.

3:30-6:00pm

Evening rush, Corn Rush: everyone stops on their way home to dinner.

6:00-8:00pm

Picking zinnias, snapdragons, sunflowers and making bouquets. Picking whatever is coming in abundance, be it cukes, beans, squash, peas.

8:00-8:30pm

Fertilizing and preparing based on weather. Tending to animals

9:00-10:00pm

Dinner prep, and eat.  Perhaps endulge in a much deserved cocktail

10:00pm

Catching the 10pm news to hear weather report.

10:30pm

ZZZZzzzzzzz...…..
