Knock, Knock. Who's There?

My experience meeting people during this campaign season has really opened my eyes and been a truly enjoyable experience.

“Knock, Knock.”

“Who’s there?”

I’ve always loved a good joke, but as of recently, my days are filled with “Knock, Knock – Who’s There?” for another reason. My goal is to knock on every single door in the 11th Plymouth  District in an effort to truly understand what the people I hope to represent are thinking. To this point, I have knocked on many, but I still have a long way to go!

I am grateful for the opportunity Easton Patch has given to each of the candidates to blog.  Blogging is an ideal way for a candidate to talk to many constituents at once, but what I really love is conversing with people one at a time.

It is undoubtedly important that people in the district know where each of the candidates stand on various issues. Yet in the end, I believe the best way to get that message out is one door at a time. While it takes significant effort, I consider it a labor of love.

I will be the first to tell you that I prefer having a conversation to making a speech. I prefer the back-and-forth and give-and-take of dialogue.  I like listening and learning, while meeting new people along the way. It may sound cliché, but there are many folks I have recently met that can attest otherwise; it truly has meaning. Behind every door there is a person, and every person has a story. Although it is an incredible amount of work, I fully intend to hear as many of those stories as possible before the primary election on September 6, and ultimately, I hope, before the general election in November.

As the campaign evolves and we begin blogging regularly, I’ll communicate what I am hearing while I make my way through this great district. There are real issues. There are real stories. There are real people. The campaign, and ultimately the position of State Representative, is just that: representing the people that make up this district. And the only way to do that properly is one door at a time.

So - “Knock, Knock” - I can’t wait to meet you. And if you do have a good joke, I’d love to hear it!
