Easton Huskies Chase Second Place in Cranberry League

The Easton Huskies went into Sunday's doubleheader hoping to close in on first place Braintree in the Cranberry League.

Unfortunately, the 17-0 White Sox tightened their lock on first place with a doubleheader sweep over the Huskies. Braintree improved to 17-0 on the year and have one of the league's Stan Musial Tournament spots locked up.
For the second spot, it's a pretty tight race between the Canton A's are in second place with an 11-7 with a game and half lead over the 10-9 Weymouth Phillies, while the Huskies are 9-8. The Rockland Cardinals still have a chance at 8-9.
The Huskies will be off until Sunday, July 7, facing the Weymouth Phillies in a 5 p.m. start at Frothingham Park.
In the first game, Braintree's Shane Stande went 4 for 6 to lead the White Sox to a 5-4 win in 12 innings.  Dan Morse, Adam Tempesta and Dustin Alguier each had two hits. 
Nick Asselin improved to 4-0 with the win in relief, while Dave Billotte took the loss after giving up an unearned. He also struck out two batters. Easton got an outstanding relief from Nate Bayuk, who went six innings, giving no runs, two hits, while striking out four batters. 
The Huskies were hoping to get the split in the second game, but they dropped a 6-3 decision. Tempesta went 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Nick Thrasher also had two hits. Alguier had two RBI. 
Matt Hamlet, who was the Cranberry League's Player of the Week, led the White Sox going 2 for 3 with three RBI. Hamlet is batting .430 on the season and leading the league with 17 RBI. Teammate Marc Perdios drove in two runners.
Evan Dean got tagged with the loss for the Huskies, while Chris Kowalski improved to 3-0 and Tim Troup picked up his second save.
