Easton Rep. O'Connell Spearheads Foodstamp Reform

Shaunn O'Connell, (R-Taunton) and Easton’s representative in the Massachusetts, is helping to push through legislation to limit the amount people using EBT cards can have on their balance, according to an Associated Press report.

The bill is designed to stop people who are still receiving assistance but do not necessarily need it.  Any recipients with more than $1,500 on their balance will be contacted to see if they in fact still need it.

The Department of Transitional Assistance will also contact clients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program if their balance grows greater than $5,000. Commissioner of the DTA Stacy Monahan said the programs are designed to help citizens with their most basic  and immediate needs.
