Obituaries: Edmund J. Matta, Jeffrey A. Horne, Gloria J. Barrett

The following are recent Easton obituaries.

EDMUND J. MATTA

Edmund J. Matta, 79, a resident of Easton for the past 39 years, died Sunday, June 30, 2013 at West Acres Nursing Home in Brockton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Rosemary (Sullivan) Matta.

Born in Brockton on May 1, 1934, a son of the late George and Anna (Antoon) Matta, he was raised in Brockton and was a 1952 graduate of Brockton High School and and continued his education at Burdett School, graduating in 1954.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served served in the US Army. Edmund was the longtime proprietor of Edmund's Restaurant in Easton at the intersection of Rte.106 and Rte.138, retiring in 1999.

A communicant of the Holy Cross Church in Easton, Edmund was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 93 in Brockton and was also a member of the Westgate Lane Bowling League. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending winters in Florida.

In addition to his wife Rosemary, he is survived by a son, Kenneth L. Matta and his wife Marie of Wrentham; a daughter, Karen Matta Oshima and her husband Michi Oshima of Madbury, NH.; his siblings George Matta of Gloucester, Georgette Gray of Chicago, IL., Ronald P. Matta of Brockton, Daniel Matta of Brockton, and Patricia Matta Litif of Bridgewater; a niece, Kelley Matta Staph of Middleboro and a nephew, Paul R. Matta of Easton, both whom were raised by Edmund and Rosemary; and five grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Edward M. Matta, William J. Mattaand Vincent Matta.

JEFFREY A. HORNE

Jeffrey A. Horne, 60, of Taunton, formerly of Easton and Brockton, died Monday, July 1, 2013 at Morton Hospital in Taunton. He was the fiancé of Marlene Aviles of Taunton.

Born in Brockton on January 6, 1953, a son if the late Lawrence A. and Shirley (MacGinnis) Horne, he was raised in Brockton and Easton and was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School.

A carpenter in the construction industry, his hobbies included playing pool, camping with family and friends, boating and fishing.

In addition to his fiancé, he is survived by two sons, Mark Horne and his wife Tracy of Taunton and Derek Horne of Taunton; his siblings, Larry Horne of CA., Gregory Horne of Easton, Dennis Horne of Plainville, Cliff Horne of Easton, Susan Horne of Easton, and Charlene Horne of South Carolina; two grandchildren, Ava and Danika; several nieces and nephews and his former wife Donna Rodriguez of Taunton. He was also the husband of the late Donna Horne.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, July 8, from 4-7 p.m. in Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services 605 Washington St. (Rte.138) Easton follow by a funeral service at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. GLORIA J. BARRETT

Gloria J. (Buckingham), 82, of Middleboro, formerly of North Easton, died Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Nemasket Health Care in Middleboro.

She was born in Brockton, daughter of the late Charles J. and Catherine H. She was the loving wife of the late James T. Barrett and beloved mother of Diane McKinnon and her husband Bill of Middleboro, Steven Barrett and his wife Carolyn of CO, David Barrett and his wife Kathy of Easton, Kevin Barrett and his wife Karen of Hopedale, Robert and Linda Barrett, and Patty Dorsey and her husband Steve of Raynham. She was the devoted sister of the late Gerry Brady, Pricilla Conceison, and Pat Derring. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

Gloria enjoyed playing cards, BINGO, vacationing down Cape Cod, and spending time with her family and friends.

Funeral from the Copeland-MacKinnon Funeral Home 38 Center St., Easton on Saturday, July 6, at 9 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am in Immaculate Conception Church, Main St., Easton. Visiting hours will be held on Friday in the funeral home from 2-7 pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Easton.
