The Gypsy King Visits Easton

“The Gypsy King,” a musical, will be performed at Oliver Ames High School auditorium Friday, July 19, at 7 p.m. and also Saturday, July 20, at 7 p.m.  This musical is the summer performance for Easton Children’s Theatre, featuring the most talented kids, age 10 to 16 from Easton and surrounding towns. Tickets will be on sale at the door, $10.
“The Gypsy King” is about a band of Old World Gypsies who descend on a small town in America and inform a young man that his grandfather, whom he never knew, has died and that he is now their new Gypsy King. But before he can secure his title, he must marry the Gypsy princess, defeat her angry suitor, and learn the ways of a lost heritage. Filled with comedy, romance, action, and raucous Gypsy music and dance, this show will be entertaining for audiences of any age.
Bruce Hadley plays Marko, the boy who has been proclaimed king, and Michael Kjelgaard plays Walter, his surprisingly adept best friend. Rebecca O’Rourke appears as Marko’s American girlfriend, Diana, while Ellie Ault plays the mercurial Gypsy Princess promised to him at birth. Ferka, who feels he should have been named king, is played by Kyle Foxx, and Pauli (Alex Foote) helps him in his plot to kill the prospective king.  The role of Essie, the aunt who raised Marko, is played by Lily Vinocoor. She and Andrash (Jacob Less) rekindle an old romance when he brings the tribe to America. Danny Greene and Ben Volk appear as Immigration investigators who are after Marko, and Marko’s other American  friends are played by Erin Flagg, TJ Clifford, Owen Connor, Nicole Geary, Vi Duran, Brendan Morrison, Aly Flagg and Hannah Clifford.
The Gypsy children, who sing a comical song about how they punish children in America (making them eat fast food, etc.) are played by Alex Panaggio, Molly Pike, Cameron Isvick, Emily Meyers, and Danielle Geary. Members of the band of Gypsies include Elizabeth Hadley, Seamus Morrison, Ashlyn Butler, Katie Ault, Christina Beatty, Maria Aviles, and Jessica Shea.
