'Twas Just Before Christmas

'Twas just before Christmas and all around town
a winter storm warning threatened the ground
Markets were mob scenes, hardware stores too
Preparing with groceries, ice melt and shovel (or two)

The children were prepping - pulling their gear
In hopes that the snow would pile up here
With mom in her North Face and dad in his too
They battened the hatches as the storm tension grew

When out in the yard there arose such a calm
That everyone paused and looked past the alarm
Face to the windows, eager cheeks pressed
Each family considered the gifts they possessed

Shelter and food, comfort and warmth
Board games and stories, blankets and hearth
Winter was coming!  Heck it was already here
They all had each other, there was nothing to fear.

Snowflakes were flying, they shone as they fell
Blanketing branches and rooftops as well
Houses were lit on bush, ridge and door
Neighborhoods glowed - who could ever want more?

Moonlight would offer it's own shining hope
As it lit up the beauty of evergreen rope
Sidewalks and pavement would benefit too
There's nothing like powder to lighten the hue

Sledding and snowmen, snowballs and forts
There's nothing like snow to make winter a sport
Holiday shopping can wait one more day
It's better outside playing fun reindeer games

'Twas just before Christmas and all around town
families saw the value and beauty in white, green and brown...
