Ames Free Library Looks to 'Raise the Roof'

Children's Wing in the Library needs a new roof. AFL is searching for donations.

Submitted to Easton Patch:

‘Raise the Roof on Reading’ for the Children’s Wing during April’s National Library Celebration.

The much loved Children’s Wing at the Ames Free Library needs a new roof.  The elegant clay tile has withstood 81 New England winters since it was built in 1931 by Fanny Holt Ames in memory of her husband William Hadwen Ames, but it’s now time to replace it.

“Raise the Roof on Reading” at the Ames Free Library is like an old fashioned barn-raising:  an Easton-wide effort to get that new roof in place!  If every one of the 9,000 monthly visitors to the library contributed just $5, the equivalent of buying a few cups of coffee a week, nearly one quarter of the money needed to replace the roof would be raised!

To kick off the celebration during April for National Library Week, the library is offering three valuable prizes for a raffle fundraiser:  two Kindle eReaders funded by the Friends of the Ames Free Library and a $100 Savings Bond offered by the North Easton Savings Bank.

People who give $5.00 or more will automatically be entered in the raffle, and have their name displayed prominently.

The entire community is invited to stop by the library in April, enter the raffle for just $5.00, and help ‘Raise the Roof on Reading.’  Raffle tickets can be purchased online at www.amesfreelibrary.org.

The American Library Association reminds us this month’s theme is not only “You belong @your library,” but that the Ames Free Library belongs to you!  So pitch in and help RAISE THE ROOF ON READING by contributing just $5.00.  Participating patrons’ names will be displayed at the library during the month of April, as we reach our goal of raising 25% of the cost of the Children’s Room Roof!

The Ames Free Library, Best Small Library In America - 2011 - 2nd Place Winner, awarded by Library Journal and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is located at 53 Main Street North Easton, MA 02356 – 508-238- 2000 - www.amesfreelibrary.org.

Thank you for reaching out to us. I would be happy to contribute the $5.00 as suggested, however I could use a hand. The trash that has accumulated around the high school, the football stadium and other parts of town needs to be picked up. I would be willing to pick up the trash around the high school area, as my schedule allows for it....provided the town of Easton could make appropriate arrangements for the disposable of the trash. The found bottles and cans, I will redeem locally through bottle redemption and the money will be used to fund your $5.00 request.

If all 9,000 monthly library users contributed $20, the roof would be paid in full. That's not much to ask and to give back to a magnificant resource!
