Obituary of Charlmer G. Groves

Charlmer G. "Jib" Groves, 83, a resident of Easton for the past 35 years, died October 27, 2012 at Braemoor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Brockton after a period of failing health.

Born in Auburn, Maine on July 6, 1929, a son of the late Irving and Fredacy (Madore) Groves, he was raised and educated in Maine. A veteran of WWII, he served in the US Navy as an MM2 and was stationed aboard the USS Waldron and the USS S.B. Roberts.

Jib was employed as a trackman for the MBTA for 20 years. A member of the Boston Carmen's Union Local 589, he was an avid woodworker.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna M. Cunha and her husband Robert of Easton; four sisters, Betty Williams, Mary Jordan, Mary Madore and Valencia Anketell; grandfather of Laurie Cunha of Taunton and Kathleen Souza of Easton; great grandfather of Christopher Cunha and Amber Souza. He was also the brother of the late Jean Anderson and Irving "Dooley" Groves III.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services 605 Washington Street (Rte.138) Easton, followed by a funeral Mass in the Holy Cross Church, Easton, at 11:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Due to floral restrictions at the cemetery, donation in Charlmer's memory may be sent to Alzheimer's Association Massachusetts Chapter, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
