Mary M. (McCarthy) Slein, 76, a resident of Easton for 44 years, died Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation-Sachem in East Bridgewater after a period of failing health. She was the wife of Richard F. Slein for 51 years.
Born in Boston on May 15, 1936, a daughter of the late Eugene and Mary (Murphy) McCarthy, she was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School. An alumnus of Boston City Hospital School of Nursing and Boston University School of Nursing she worked as a registered nurse at Boston City Hospital and as a special duty nurse at area Boston Hospitals.
Mrs. Slein with her husband were volunteers at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital and with coworkers of Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity. In addition to her husband Richard, she is survived by a son, Mark Slein of Marlboro; a daughter, Juliana Cahill of Easton; a brother, James McCarthy of Braintree; a sister, Marie Ohman of Southboro; and several grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Maria Slein and sister of the late Dr. Eugene McCarthy.
A funeral Mass was held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at St. Mary's Church, Taunton. Interment followed in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Easton.
