Dog Collapses After Nearly 4 Hours in Hot Car at Xfinity Center; Owner Charged

Edwin F. Harrington, Jr., of Maine, allegedly left his dog in a hot car at the Xfinity Center for nearly four hours, police said.

Mansfield police on Thursday charged a man with animal cruelty after they said he left his dog in a hot car for nearly four hours at the Xfinity Center during the Warped Tour concert.

Police said they found the Boston Terrier/bulldog mix named Tuffy in a crate in the back seat of a 2002 Buick Park Avenue. The windows were rolled down about three inches, police said.

When officers freed the dog, it collapsed and was unable to move its rear legs. The dog suffered heat stroke and shock and was transported to Tufts Veterinary Emergency Treatment and Specialties, police said.

The owner, Edwin F. Harrington, Jr., 60, of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, was charged with animal cruelty. His bail was set at $1,000.

Witnesses told police they last saw Harrington at his vehicle at about 10:45 a.m. Someone called police when they saw the dog in the car at about 2:30 p.m.

Earlier this week, a Rhode Island man was charged with animal cruelty for allegedly leaving his dog in a car in 124-degree heat.
