Easton Man and Dog Dead After Getting Hit by Car

An Easton man and his dog are dead after getting hit by a car in a residential neighborhood.

According to Easton Police, a 911 call was received at 9:24 a.m. reporting that a man and dog were struck by a car near 24 Summer Street in North Easton

A preliminary investigation has revealed the vehicle, a 2005 Infiniti Sedan being operated by a 17-year-old, struck the victim and his dog near or on the sidewalk before striking a tree and coming to rest.

The victim has been identified as 71-year-old George E. Power of North Easton. His dog was also killed during the crash. Power was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, where he was pronounced dead at 10:06 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to Brockton Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the District Attorney's Office, State Police detectives assigned to this office, Easton Police and members of the State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit. No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation remains active and ongoing.
