Easton Police Investigate Short Street House Break

Police pursuit a suspect via car and foot Friday night

An investigation is ongoing after an alleged house break on Short Street sent Easton Police on a high speed chase and foot pursuit Friday night.

The investigation led Easton Police to Stoughton where they were assisted by Stoughton Police.

Easton Police Chief Allen Krajcik said police first responded to a call at approximately 8 p.m. from a home owner reporting someone had just entered their home and stolen jewelry. On arrival, officers learned that the occupants had heard a back slider close.  A motion sensor in the backyard came on and the owner allegedly saw a black male in his back yard and chased the suspect up Short Street toward Lyman Wheelock.

During the subsequent investigation, Officer Chris Aker spoke to residents on Lyman Wheelock who said they saw a black male getting into a vehicle and leaving the area.

"Officer Jared Nevens observed a  suspicious vehicle leaving the area and he followed that vehicle up Center Street to Lothrop where the vehicle pulled into an apartment building parking lot," Krajcik said.

As Nevens approached the vehicle, it fled at a high rate of speed down Center Street towards Main Street, Krajcik said.

While being pursued, the vehicle crashed into a tree near Long Pond in Stoughton and the suspect fled on foot.

Krajcik said Stoughton and Easton Police conducted an extensive search with several canine teams but the suspect was not located Friday night.

"The suspect’s vehicle was towed and the investigation is continuing by Officer Chris Aker and Sgt. John Lynn," he said.
