Fire Causes 'Significant Damage' To Lynda Road Home

An Easton family was displaced Sunday night after a barrel fire turned into a house fire.

What started as an outside barrel fire on Lynda Road Sunday night quickly escalated into a house fire that sent fire departments to the scene and displaced an Easton family.

Fire Chief Kevin Partridge said that a "significant amount of damage to the property" on 10 Lynda Road was caused after a barrel fire on the back deck managed to generate enough heat to light the wood on fire.

No injuries were reported.

"[The homeowner] put tile under the barrel but it was ceramic tile and the heat was transferred right through the deck," Partridge said. "Over time it was enough to cause the wood deck to catch on fire. It went up the wood deck and up the side of the house and into the attic.

"When we got here, we initially got a call for a fire behind the house then it changed to ‘the back of the house is on fire.’"

The family was celebrating a First Communion, Partridge said. A family member was unavailable for comment on the scene.

Partridge said the home was unlivable for the time being.

Easton FD was assisted on the scene by Stoughton. West Bridgewater FD covered for Easton.

The first call occurred at approximately midnight.

"The first guys through, Engine Four, did an awesome job," Partridge said. "They got around the house and knocked the fire down, then they brought the line back around to the front door and went up to the attic. All of the fire had been stuffed out at that time."
