Gang Members Arrested in Easton

Jeremiah Cowart, 22, of Taunton and Scott Spera, 26, of Weaverville, N.C., who both allegedly belong to a gang called "Maniac Latin Disciples, were arrested in Easton last Wednesday.

The following is a statement from the Easton Police Department:

On Wednesday, October 2, 2013, Easton Police were notified by a Massachusetts State Parole Board officer that he had an arrest warrant for a parole violator, Jeremiah Cowart, age 22 of 17 Sherwood Drive Apt 6 Taunton. 

The suspect had an ankle bracelet and was believed to be at 24 Canton Street North Easton. Due to the suspect’s violent past history including drug and firearms arrests, a regional SWAT team was called in to assist with the apprehension.  The suspect was also known to carry firearms. 

The suspect was not found at the Canton Street address but was located a short time later on Plymouth Drive in South Easton.  He was placed under arrest along with Scott Spera, age 26 of Weaverville, North Carolina. 

Both were charged with possession of class B with intent to distribute.  A bag with approximately nine grams of crystal methamphetamine were found in the car that they were arrested in.  This drug is believed to be “Molly” and is undergoing further testing. 

Both subjects are members of a gang known as the “Maniac Latin Disciples.”  Both were held on high bail.  Agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) also assisted Easton Police.
