Man Who Stole Cigarettes from Easton 7-Eleven 'Felt Guilty,' Returns and Pays

A clerk said a man stole a carton of cigarettes but return about 45 minutes later to pay for it.

A thief with an apparent conscience stole a carton of cigarettes from the 7-Eleven on Washington Street Thursday, only to return later and pay for them, police said.

The incident was reported Thursday night at about 6 p.m. A clerk said the man tried to buy the carton with a fake $20 bill. When the clerk refused to accept the counterfeit currency, he walked out with the carton. About 45 minutes later, he said he "felt guilty" and paid for it with real money.

The suspect was described as a white male, about 35 years old, wearing a blue T-shirt and gray shorts. Police said they are investigating the incident.
