Corona Supports Murphy for State Rep

Easton Board of Selectmen Chair Colleen Corona announced her support for Republican Dan Murphy.

Easton Board of Selectmen Chair Colleen Corona announced Wednesday that she is supporting fellow Selectman Dan Murphy in his run for State Representative in the 11th Plymouth District.

Corona, a Democrat, has worked with Murphy, a Republican, for the past two years on the Board of Selectmen.

“I have had the opportunity to serve with Dan Murphy on the Easton Board of Selectmen for the last 2 years," Corona said in a statement released by the Murphy campaign. "Dan is thoughtful and incredibly hard working, and he has been a strong leader.  He has worked to help balance our town budget at a time when local aid has been cut significantly. He works incredibly hard to educate himself on every issue, and has sought creative, long term solutions for the issues our community is facing. He has been a consensus builder, and truly listens to the residents. I respect his opinion immensely and am proud to serve with him on the Board of Selectmen.”

“I am proud Colleen has endorsed my candidacy," Murphy said. "It shows that I am the person who will work in the best interest of the communities.  I plan to bring balance to the State House and work to end the political gamesmanship.”

Murphy's key endorsement comes the week after his opponent, Claire Cronin (D-Easton) received a key endorsement from Brockton City Councilor and former candidate Jass Stewart (D-Brockton). Cronin has also received endorsements from the Massachusetts Teachers Association, Massachusetts Nurses Association and Massachusetts Political Caucus.

Murphy and Cronin are squaring off in a diverse district that represents Precincts 1-5 in Easton and all of Ward 1, Ward 3-D, Ward 7-C and 7-D in Brockton. The winner will replace Geraldine Creedon (D-Brockton) on Beacon Hill.
