Easton Mobile-Home Park Legislation Passes in House

Legislation filed by Representative Claire D. Cronin (D-Easton) to regulate the Easton mobile-home park with bylaws that place rents and tenant evictions under the authority of a town appointed board passed in the House July 29.

Easton voters overwhelmingly passed a bylaw creating a mobile home rent control board in February of 2012.  The bill was filed previously but was stalled in committee and died in the last legislative session.  Representative Cronin refiled the legislation in her first week in office.  The bill was co-sponsored by Senator Brian A. Joyce and Representative Shaunna O’Connell.

Representative Cronin and Easton Town Administrator David Colton testified on behalf of the bill along with residents of the mobile-home park in May before the Joint Committee on Housing.

“I am pleased we were able to push this legislation through this time.  This will give the residents of the mobile-home park protection that they desperately need from unreasonable rent increases,” said Representative Cronin.

The bill now moves to the Senate.
