Easton Planning and Zoning Board Approves First Phase of Queset Development

Plans are moving forward for the mixed-use, 40R development behind the Stoneforge.

Easton residents may see construction activity at Queset Commons behind the Stoneforge restaurant soon.

The first phase of construction for the mixed-use, 40R development was approved by the Easton planning and zoning board last week.

According to Easton Town Planner Gary Anderson, who appeared before selectmen Monday, the phase will include two buildings, one of which will house 50 apartment buildings and the other will include 22,000 square feet of commercial space on the first floor with 48 apartments on a second floor.

Anderson said the design is slightly different than what was originally planned. The residential building was originally slated to house 83 assisted living spaces. Additionally, that building will be three stories rather than four and underground parking will be included.

The decision not to include assisted living units resulted from "permitting issues" with the state, Anderson said.

Anderson said the overall project was stable, with no expansion in the number of units originally proposed.

The project has been on hold as a result of the down economy, Easton Town Administrator David Colton said. Easton residents voted to support the Local Initiative Project at a May 2009 town meeting.
