More EEE Positive Mosquitoes Found in Easton; Aerial Spraying to Occur

Aerial Spraying to Commence next Monday.

The state announced Tuesday that aerial spraying will occur in neighboring Easton and 10 other towns after more Eastern Equine Encephalitis positive mosquitoes were found on the Easton/Raynham line.

The aerial spraying in Easton will begin on Monday, July 23, weather, night time air temperature, and wind speed permitting, Easton Health Agent Mark Taylor said in a statement Tuesday.

"The Board of Health advises to curtail all night time activities one hour prior to dusk; the continued use of bug spray and long sleeves shirts and long pants are also recommended," the statement said. "The use of aerial spraying is a good combatant to this issue, however it is by no means a cure for this ongoing issue. Please continue these recommendations even after the aerial spraying has been completed."

The infected mosquitoes found on the Raynham/Easton line were the second set to c. Infected mosquitoes were also found in Carver last week.

The Easton Board of Health was informed of the aerial spraying via an "emergency conference call" with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Tuesday.

Other towns expected to receive aerial spraying include Middleboro, Norton, Plympton, Raynham, Taunton, West Bridgewater, Bridgewater, Halifax and Lakeville.

I cannot believe they are going to spray and kill so much wild life just because two mosquitoes were found with EEE. The environmental destruction is far more devastating than the possible humans who may contract the disease.

Actually, I live in an area that was sprayed and I have yet to see any signs of wildlife, with the exception of mosquitoes impacted. Time to ease up on the tree hugging.
