Stonehill College Donates $40,000 to Easton

Stonehill College makes two separate $20,000 checks.

Stonehill College donated two $20,000 checks to the town of Easton at Monday night’s board of selectmen’s meeting.

Easton Town Administrator David Colton said one check was specified to go to Parks and Recreation, school, libraries and the council on aging. He noted that when a there is a gift to the town and the donator specifies what the gift should be used the town can either comply or turn the gift down.Colton said they can do whatever they want with the second check. Selectmen chair Colleen Corona said the second $20,000 will go into the town’s free cash fund.

“We appreciate their generosity,” she said.

During the meeting, selectmen Ellen Barlow said she believes the donation is, “making amends for what has happened.”

After the meeting, Corona said, “there has been some strain in the relationship (between the town and the college).” She said when there is a college in a town it is customary that the college make donations to the town.
