Easton Officials Finalize Wastewater Management Plan

Representatives from the consulting group Woodard and Curran met with selectmen last week to discuss the town's Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan, which was recently finalized.

"This is something we’re required to do to determine how we’re going to treat our wastewater," Board of Selectmen chair Colleen Corona explained.

The plan highlights five "Tier 1" areas in Easton: Easton Center, North Easton Village, Five Corners, Turnpike Street and the Easton Industrial Park.

Solutions were posed for wastewater flow in-town and out-of-town.

In town, consultants Dan Garson and Vonnie Reis said North Easton Village's needs will largely be covered by a new wastewater treatment plant at the Ames Shovel Works development, with a wastewater "reserve field"  and "recharge fields" at the YMCA and Governor Ames Estate.

The area around the Easton Grange was also discussed as a possible site for a wastewater treatment plant.

Additionally, the development of Queset Common, a public-private development behind the Stoneforge, is expected to create a 150,000 capacity wastewater plant - 50,000 of which will service the town.

Reis said the Town hopes to work with Mansfield to service 165,000 gallons per day created by Easton's Five Corners.

Easton is also hoping to work with Brockton to help service the Easton Industrial Park, Easton Center and Turnpike Street.

Brockton was recently granted permission by the state to negotiate wastewater service with other towns.

"The door is now open for Easton to have negotiatons with Brockton," Reis said.

The first step in implementing Easton's plan is completing the Ames Shovel Works project, Garson said. The Wastewater Treatment Plant is expected to be finished this summer and the North Easton Village Collection System is expected to be finished by this fall, with additional recharge fields finished by the fall of '14.

Officials hope to finalize the entire plan, with municipal agreements with Mansfield and Brockton, by the fall of 2019.
