[UPDATE] Fox Lane Alumni Limit is for Having 'Normalcy'

With holiday break approaching and in the wake of the Newtown, CT school shooting, Fox Lane High School announces that this year, alumni cannot enter the building.

Update, 5:35 p.m.

Bedford Central schools Superintendent Jere Hochman responded to a request for comment from Patch about the decision.

The temporary change, he explained is not due to "any concerns or anything like that.” Rather, the reason for it is to allow for a sense of normalcy to return to the school and to give time to recoup.

The limit does not mean that Fox Lane is being hostile towards the alumni, Hochman explained.

“We love our alumni. Teachers love them."

The limit is only in effect for the current school week and will not apply when holiday break ends, when students return to classes the week of Jan. 7, 2013.

Original Story:

In reaction to the mass shooting at a Newtown, CT elementary school, alumni and former students of Fox Lane High School will not be allowed to return and visit before 2 p.m., this week, the school announced.

"We know you understand and respect our decision to maintain order and safety in our school at this time," the school stated in an announcement posted to its website.

The temporarily restriction will be lifted after students return from holiday break, on the week of Jan. 7, 2013, the school stated.

Makes no sense to me. None. We have learned that things happen for no reason, and limiting the number of visitors is not a solution to the problem. Especially alum who usually love to come back before the break to visit teachers and friends.

A follow up to that: According to the district's website, alumni are already not allowed to visit before 2 p.m., which is the tail end of the school day.

Tom: that makes more sense. Thanks for the clarification.

its not stupid at all, they have no control over who comes and goes and with more exposure, more chance of a problem....newtown changed and will continue to change everything....sad but true
