Luke Carroll Named Interim Principal at Easton Middle School

The vice principal will replace John Giuggio on an interim basis. The process has started to replace H.H. Richardson Principal Donna Tobin.

Easton Superintendent Dr. Michael Green announced at Thursday night's School Committee meeting that Vice Principal Luke Carroll will take over as the interim principal when John Giuggio retires at the end of this school year.

"We’re very pleased and confident that Luke’s experience as assistant principal will help him," Green said.

Green said he decided to hire a principal on an interim basis because of the short time frame given to conduct a search and hiring process. Giuggio officially announced his retirement at the April 5 School Committee meeting.

"They’re very relieved that there's going to be that continuity and consistency and there will be leadership from someone who learned at John’s knee, so to speak," she said.

With the official resignation of Donna Tobin Thursday night, , Green will also need to fill the position of principal at

He said he has already met with staff members at the school and he plans to meet with staff members at Richardson's counterpart,, to put together a plan on replacing Tobin.

School Committee members said they were disappointed to see Tobin leave, but wished her the best in Westwood.

"I’m really sad to see Donna go," said School Committee member Colleen Less. "I was part of the search committee and she made an impression on us during the process. She has done a great deal of work and she’s laid the groundwork [at Richardson] moving forward."

Green said that because the summer time is a critical time for planning the upcoming school year, they only have "a few months" to find a replacement.
