Southeastern Regional Faculty to Face Harlem Superstars

A team of Southeastern Regional faculty members will face the Harlem Superstars at the school April 11.

It’s show time at Southeastern Regional Technical Vocational High School. Both school and community members will enjoy “Comedy Basketball at its Best” when the Harlem Superstars play against the Southeastern Dream Team of students, teachers and staff. The fundraising event will be held on Wednesday, April 11, at  6 p.m. at the high school gym on 250 Foundry St., South Easton.

The event is a collaboration of students from Marketing, Design and Visual Communications (DVC), Video Production and Graphics. Marketing students are taking an active role in organizing, promoting, selling tickets and running the event.

Proceeds will help defray costs of student participation in DECA, an organization that “prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.” (From www.deca.org).

Harlem Superstars team members are among the best basketball comedians in the world. Superstar Ricky “7 Footer” Lopes has been featured on several national television commercials, has appeared on the NBC hit series Law and Order, and performed skits on Conan O”Brien and David Letterman. Chris “Chicken” Turnquist of Nassau, is a great dancer with a wonderful Bohemian accent. Kevin “Showboat” Jackson’s amazing no look shot, his huge smile and love for the game are a winning combination. Mark “Hollywood” Jones, Avery “Slick” Stevenson and Steven “Surfer Boy” Faulkner will complete the Harlem Superstars team. (From www.harlemsuperstars.com)

Currently, the teacher/staff portion of the Southeastern Dream Team includes Mr. Comeau, Mr. Rose, Ms. Fallon, Mr. Campbell and Mrs. Foster.  Selected students who participated in selling tickets and promoting the event will complete the roster of Dream Team players to challenge the Harlem Superstars. SERSD Athletic Director Daniel Tripp will assume the role of Celebrity Referee.

Tickets may be purchased in advance for $10 at the school store, via PayPal at the school store’s online website www.sersd.org/students/store, or from SERSD Dream Team Players, Mr. Andrew Thurston or any marketing student.
