Easton Americans Among "Elite Eight" in 104-team Tournament

The 12-year-old all-star team traveled to Cooperstown, N.Y., where they played teams from all over the U.S. and Canada, and made it to the quarterfinals.

The Easton Americans 12-year-old all-star baseball team competed against other kids from all across the country and Canada at a week-long tournament at Cooperstown Field of Dreams Park in Cooperstown, N.Y., according to an email from a parent of a team member.

The team, coached by Chris Kemp, Mike Spillane and Shaun Flavin, and umpired by Nick Calabraro, went 5-1 in pool play and won their first two playoff games, advancing them to the "Elite Eight" quarterfinals in the 104-team tournament.

They were the first team from Massachusetts to advance to the quarterfinals at Cooperstown Dreams Park all summer. They lost to an eventual finalist.

The tournament in Cooperstown has been running for 13 weeks every summer for 12 years. It's open and is open to any team that signs up.
